Diamonds, Moissanites
and Tanzanites

What Stone Is Perfect For You?

Diamond, Moissanite or Tanzinite

Before we deep-dive into which stone suits you best, let's take a look at the differences between all these fine choices.

Colour: All three stones vary in colour, diamonds are graded from D (colourless) to Z (yellow), Tanzanite gets graded from SD (dark blue) to A (pale violet), where Moissanites are normally a GIA-Certified K-grade. Some Moissanite stones have a yellow,
grey or green tint depending on the lighting.

Hardness: It's a known fact that diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substance on Earth and scored 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Moissanite is scored 9.25 on the scale and Tanzanite is scored between 6 and 7 on the scale.

Brilliance: This refers to how much light reflects from a gemstone to create a sparkle effect. A diamond with an ideal cut will have the highest level of brilliance, as it's cut in a way to reflect as much light as possible. Moissanite is faceted differently to a diamond, which causes less white light to refract. Tanzanite can't be compared to diamonds or Moissanites because of the unique dark colour it possesses.

Clarity: This refers to the assessment of imperfections internally and externally of a given stone. Moissanite generally has a higher clarity than a diamond because it's created in a lab, whereas, a diamond is formed naturally. It's quite common for diamonds to have inclusions and blemishes as they are natural products, whereas, Moissanite has very few. Tanzanite is a Type1 gemstone as classified by GIA. This means that they are eye clean and have no inclusions visible to the naked eye. It has an attractive vitreous luster and is often of high clarity.
Visible inclusions seen can decrease the value of the Tanzanite.

Price: Diamonds are the most valuable stone on the market, so compared to Moissanites and tanzanites. It's exponentially more expensive than the the lab-grown stone, Moissanite, and one of the most rare gemstones that you can only find in Tanzania - Tanzanite.

Top 10 Gemstone Cuts

Find the perfect cut for you

Round Brilliant Cut

The Round Brilliant is by far the most popular cut . With it's fifty-seven perfectly aligned facets, it's brilliance really does out-shine the rest. Total internal reflection is the key here; light travels through the stone giving optimum sparkle and scintillation. You can't go wrong with a Round Brilliant stone which will look elegant in any setting; the true classic engagement ring.

Cushion Cut

Being a cross between the Round Brilliant cut and a Princess cut; it is a softer square or rectangular shape, similar to a
cushion or pillow - hence the name!

Princess Cut

This square shape brings a contemporary feel to your ring and can be set in either the square or compass point orientation. The Princess cut remains a classic!

Emerald Cut

The Emerald cut is one of the most timeless. It is elegant and beautiful. It's recommended to aim for higher colours and clarities; there is no hiding the brillance when it comes to an emerald cut. The style of cutting is what we call 'step cut'. It's more of a hall of mirror effect than the total internal reflection
that comes from a Round Brilliant Cut.

Oval Shape

The Oval Shape is another elegant one to choose from; by being slighter longer than the round choice, but having a similar sparkle to it - this is a great choice to elongate the finger. Ovals tend to be cut from shallower stones to really make the most of the rough stone.

Marquise Cut

If you're looking for something even longer, then the Marquise might just be the one for you. Carat for carat, the Marquise has the largest surface area of any stone cut, so it always looks incredible; from a 0.30ct to a 0.90ct stone.

Pear Shape

Pear (also known as a Tear Drop Shape) is an incredibly elegant shape and it brings a degree of old-school and timeless glamour to your jewellery; with the addition of some millgraining, it is modern-day vintage at it's best.

This piece is gorgeous and can really make a statement on it's own just based on it's appearance.

Asscher Cut

Next, we come to the Asscher cut, which is a square variation on the emerald cut mentioned above. Asschers have incredibly unique and mesmerizing reflections; it is an unusual cut with a smaller table and cropped corners that really leaves a great impression.

Radiant Cut

The last of the angular shapes is the Radiant, cut between an emerald and a brilliant, you will experience a combination of
clean lines and brilliance.

This is one of the more unique, and elegant shapes to sell.

Fancy Cut

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, the fancy shape has a small but dedicated fan base.

There is no mistaking the meaning behind a heart shape stone, and you will fall in love with it as soon as it catches your eye.
